Slovenia to Amend Copyright Law

Oct 29 2012 - 15:00

Slovenia is preparing amendments to its Copyright and Related Rights Act. The draft law will replace the current copyright law, which entered into force in 1995 and was last amended in 2008.

The proposed law’s objectives are to:

  • Harmonize the Act with Directive 2011/77/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 September 2011 amending Directive 2006/116/EC on the term of protection of copyright and certain related rights;
  • Harmonize the Act with Directive 2006/115/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 December 2006 on rental right and lending right and on certain rights related to copyright in the field of intellectual property;
  • Ensure adequate protection of audiovisual performances;
  • Amend the regulations on remuneration for private and other internal reproduction;
  • Amend the rules governing the activities of copyright collectives in order to increase the transparency, increase the right-holders control over the collectives and clarify the requirements for managing the rights.

The draft law has undergone the inter-ministerial discussion. The public’s comments and opinions will be accepted until November 9, 2012 and can be sent via this web page.

After the public provides comments, the draft will enter the parliamentary procedure.

The draft Law Amending the Copyright and Related Rights Act is available in Slovenian only and can be downloaded at this web page.
