Romania Fights Software Piracy
On October 9, the Romanian police authorities announced the results of their campaign against software piracy, carried out in the period September 2011 — June 2012.
Based on the filed complaints, the authorities conducted 359 inspections during the campaign with an aim to discover and confiscate illegal software. The investigations resulted in the filing of 183 criminal cases.
During the same time period, the authorities sent letters to 13,000 companies informing them about the dangers of using illegal software.
According to the Business Software Alliance (BSA) global software piracy report for 2011, Romania has a 63-percent software piracy rate.
