Court In Russia Dismisses Chanel’s Egoiste Trademark Appeal

Feb 23 2012 - 12:37

A commercial court of appeals in Russia has recently dismissed Chanel’s lawsuit against Russia’s Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (Rospatent) decision to end the trademark protection for one of Chanel’s perfume trademarks, Egoiste, in Russia.

According to a Russian Legal Information Agency (RAPSI) January 23 report, Chanel filed the lawsuit on the grounds of improper notification. Namely, Chanel claims, “it had not been duly notified of the Patent Disputes Chamber meeting which ruled to end the trademark protection in 2004.” Chanel was therefore unable to prepare documents to prove the use of the trademark in accordance with its international registration.
