Ukrainian Police Seize Fake Sportswear

Ukrainian authorities in the Chernivtsi region, western Ukraine, have recently discovered and seized counterfeit sportswear bearing the marks of Adidas and Nike worth approximately EUR 7,000 (USD 7,800).

Investigation showed that the sportswear, discovered at a city market, was manufactured at an illegal workshop in a residential building, where the police found five sewing machines, a device for attaching labels onto clothes, fabric rolls, embroidery machine, counterfeit labels and ready-made products.

The police launched criminal proceedings on the basis of Article 229 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal use of trademarks, brand names, and appellations of origin. The offence is punishable by a fine as well as the disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain business activities in the future.
