Ukrainian Police Seize 6.7 Tons of Fake Laundry Detergent

The Ukrainian authorities from the city of Chernivtsi have recently discovered an illegal production plant where two individuals produced fake laundry detergent and shampoo bearing the marks of a leading consumer goods company.

The suspects purchased cheap washing powder through wholesale distributors and packed it in plastic buckets weighing 5.6 kg each.

During the raid, the police seized 6.7 tons of washing powder, as well as 3,800 shampoo bottles and 210 disposable razor packages carrying the labels of well-known brands. The fake products were sold on the Internet.

The police launched criminal proceedings on the basis of Article 229 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal use of trademarks, brand names, and appellations of origin.

This crime is punishable by a fine in the amount of EUR 7,000-11,000 (USD 8,000-12,500), the seizure and destruction of counterfeit goods, equipment and materials used for their production, as well as the disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain business activities in the future.
