EU and Moldova Conclude DCFTA Negotiations

On June 12, the European Union (EU) and the Republic of Moldova concluded the negotiations on the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) agreement, a fundamental part of the Association Agreement, launched between the EU and Moldova in January 2010 to accelerate Moldova’s political and economic integration into the EU.

The DCFTA agreement, the text of which is still to be finalized, intends to create a free trade area and enhance trade opportunities between Moldova and the EU member states. The DCFTA will also introduce much of the EU legislation into Moldova’s legal system and help create a stable legal environment for businesses and consumers.

The DCFTA negotiations began in February 2012 and the agreement is expected to be finalized ahead of the Eastern Partnership Summit, to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania in November 2013.
