On March 8, the Estonian customs officials seized 8.5 million counterfeit cigarettes with an estimated value of EUR 3.5 million (USD 4.6 million).
The cigarettes were found following a tip from tobacco company Philip Morris International Inc. and with the assistance of the German customs officials. The container with the cigarettes was on the way from China to Russia and arrived in Estonia by sea. The officials believe the cigarettes were ultimately intended for the Western European markets.
