Romanian Police Seize Fake Medicine

On June 14, 2016, the Romanian police authorities detained two individuals and seized 7,000 packages of counterfeit medicine, including painkillers, anabolic steroids and hormones, after searching several premises connected with the suspected distributors. The market value of the seized products is estimated at EUR 250,000 (USD 283,000).

Police investigation showed that in the time period from 2012 to 2016 the suspects opened 10 websites through which they advertised and sold a wide range of counterfeit medicine. The goods were sold to both Romanian and foreign customers from Spain, Italy, Belgium, Germany and the UK.

The suspects have been charged with tax evasion, trademark infringement, marketing of adulterated products and product substitution and falsification.
