More Patents and Fewer Trademarks Valid in Hungary in 2022
The Hungarian Intellectual Property Office has recently published its annual report for 2022, which shows an increase in the number of valid patents and a decrease in the number of valid trademarks in Hungary in 2022 when compared to 2021. The number of registered utility models has increased, while the number of registered designs has decreased.
The number of patents valid in Hungary at the end of 2022 was 35,746, which is 2.7% higher than in 2021. This is due to a nearly 3% increase in the number of European patent validations, while the number of granted national patents decreased by 4.5%. On the other hand, the number of registered utility models and granted supplementary protection certificates increased by 9.4% and 8%, respectively.
The number of valid national trademarks, which exceeded 54,000 in previous years, fell to 53,673 at the end of 2022. The number of international trademarks designating Hungary has also fallen from 76,000 to 73,000, a 4% decrease.
The number of registered national designs also decreased by 5.1%.
