Hungarian Customs Seize Fake Car Parts and Devices with Unlicensed Software

The Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration (NTCA) officials recently seized nearly 38,000 car parts infringing several trademarks, including Fiat®, Ford®, Volkswagen® and Peugeot®. The goods, estimated to be worth nearly EUR 500,000 (USD 550,000) were discovered on the M43 motorway in southern Hungary during the inspection of a van travelling from Turkey to Hungary.

The officials also recently seized three computers with unlicensed automotive diagnostic software and four counterfeit automotive diagnostic devices while inspecting a car workshop in Győr-Moson-Sopron county in northwestern Hungary. The inspection began with a test purchase. The tax inspectors received a regular receipt with minor deficiencies, after which the customs officials arrived to check the content of the computers. The estimated damage caused to the right holders is more than EUR 61,000 (USD 67,000).
