Hungarian Customs Seize EUR 364,000 Worth of Fake Accessories

During a recent inspection of a marketplace in the center of Budapest, the Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration (NTCA) officials seized more than 2,500 accessories, including bags, wallets, sunglasses and earphones, believed to infringe numerous trademarks, including Guess®, Gucci® and Hugo Boss®.

The shopkeepers in this particular marketplace have set up a monitoring system that detects officials in uniforms. When a uniform is detected, a warning siren is heard and the stores close their doors, even remotely with the help of remote control systems, while the sales staff leaves the premises to prevent effective inspections.

This time, however, plainclothes officers surprised the shopkeepers and seized numerous goods at two locations, estimated to be worth approximately EUR 364,000 (USD 404,000).
