May 3 2018 - 14:56

The number of customs detentions in Slovenia decreased from 1,089 in 2016 to 746 in 2017; however, the average value of the detained goods was higher than in 2016, according to the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia’s annual report for 2017.

While there were approximately 1.3 million suspected counterfeit items detained in 2016, with a total value of EUR 4.9 million (USD 6 million), the number of counterfeits detained in 2017 dropped to 194,050, with their total value decreasing only slightly — to EUR 4 million (USD 4.9 million).

The table below shows the Slovenian Customs’ statistics on the detentions of IPR infringing goods for the period 2015-2017:

2015 2016 2017
No. of infringing items 3.188,323 1.289,702 194,050
No. of detentions 2,669 1,089 746
Value in EUR (millions) 28.9 4.9 4.0

The most prevalent counterfeit goods were clothes, footwear, accessories and toys. The majority of counterfeits, as in previous years, arrived by sea through the Port of Koper in southwest Slovenia. They were mostly in transit and were intended for recipients in other EU countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia and Austria). The goods arriving by mail were intended for recipients in Slovenia and were purchased by individuals online. A considerable share of the detained goods originated in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and India.
