ICANN Approves Armenian Domain Extension in Local Script
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has approved a new domain extension for Armenia in the Armenian alphabet. The extension .հայ is transliterated as .hye in the Latin script.
The Internet Society of Armenia (ISOC AM), which also manages Armenia’s Latin domain .am, submitted the application for .hye in April 2014, and in November 2014, the ICANN experts found that this code “presents none of the threats to the stability or security of the DNS identified in [the IDN Fast Track implementation plan] … and presents an acceptably low risk of user confusion”, after which the request for the code was approved.
