PETOŠEVIĆ PEOPLE: Q&A with Sara Bakić

Part of the PETOŠEVIĆ Serbia team, Associate Sara Bakić focuses on trademark prosecution and enforcement in Serbia and other jurisdictions in the region. She is also well versed in protecting geographical indications in multiple jurisdictions. We asked Sara about her work, her favorite music, books, and much more.

1. How did you start your career in the IP field?

   I was interested in this area of law, so I contacted PETOŠEVIĆ Serbia Head of Office, who invited me for an interview even though the Belgrade office was not hiring at the time. A month later, I had an interview with the Group Executive Chairman and CEO, and soon after started working for PETOŠEVIĆ!

2. What is the most challenging aspect of your work?

   Trying to meet a client’s needs at every step of the way.

3. What do you most enjoy doing at work?

   The question is not which tasks or responsibilities I enjoy the most, so I will say that my favorite part of the day is the lunch break with my colleagues.

4. What would you be working in, if you weren’t working in IP?

   I would probably be a corporate lawyer.

5. What was the first job you’ve ever had?

   My mother paid me to do the ironing. Does this count?

6. What is your favorite thing to do when you are not working?

   It depends on my mood, but I believe that hanging out with friends is always a good idea.

7. What book did you read last?

   I am now reading Dostoevsky’s “Crime and Punishment” again.

8. What is your favorite song/music at the moment?

   “Bezimena” by Voyage x Breskvica and Michael Kiwanuka’s “Cold Little Heart”.

9. What is your favorite dish of all time?

   This is a tough question because I love food and would eat almost everything. Let’s say sarma and burek are two of my favorite dishes.

10. If you could meet anyone in the world, from the past or present, who would it be and why?

    My great-grandfather, my mother’s grandfather. The whole family has his portraits and tells funny stories about him when we meet.

11. What was your favorite subject in school and why?

    I loved languages and I was good at chemistry.

12. What did you want to be when growing up?

    President of the country, but I didn’t actually know what it meant.

13. Tell us three things most people don’t know about you.

    I was born in Bosnia, I played the piano for over 10 years, and I am scared of dentists.

14. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

    I would love to read minds.

15. What is your biggest frustration about the world around you?

    People’s impatience while driving is my current sore spot.

16. What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?

    You can’t control how someone else behaves, but you can control how you react.

17. What do you wish you could have told yourself at age 13?

    I would have told myself not to stress about things I cannot change or control, especially petty things.

18. What cities/countries have you lived in?

    I’ve lived in Brčko, Bosnia and Belgrade, Serbia.

19. If you could live in another country of the 30+ countries where PETOŠEVIĆ operates, which would you pick and why?

    I would travel everywhere, but I would pick Serbia to live in, again.

20. If someone came to your city for 24 hours, where would you take them?

    I would take them to see the sunrise from the top of the Gardoš Tower and the top of the Church of Saint Sava, and to see the sunset on the Sava and Danube rivers.
