PETOŠEVIĆ PEOPLE: Q&A with Roxana Sarghi

After joining our Bucharest team in 2007 as an Administrative Assistant and becoming a Trademark and Patent Paralegal the following year, sociologist Roxana Sarghi decided to pursue a degree in law, earned her LLB and progressed to the role of Associate in 2018. She now advises clients from a variety of industries on all aspects of registration and maintenance of IP rights in multiple jurisdictions. We asked Roxana about her work, her hobbies, and much more.

1. How come you started a career in the IP field?

It was one of those strange lucky turns of life. I applied for an administrative position, then I started learning about IP, liked it…

2. What makes IP protection challenging in your jurisdiction (and how do you overcome that challenge)?

Inconsistent practice – a never-ending story.

3. What do you most enjoy doing at work?

Dealing with different and various practices and requirements of local PTOs.

4. What would you be working in, if you weren’t working in IP?

Social assistance, most likely.

5. What was the strangest job you’ve ever had?

I’ve never had a strange job. Before PETOŠEVIĆ I worked at a publishing and printing house, for approximately two years.

6. What is your favorite thing to do when you are not working?

Reading, horse riding, travelling, spending time with my friends.

7. What book did you read last?

“A Little Life” by Hanya Yanagihara.

8. What is your favorite song at the moment?

It’s actually an album, „Ușor distorsionat” of the Romanian band The Mono Jacks.

9. If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

That’s a sad perspective! But I would say chocolate, cakes, anything sweet.

10. If you could meet anyone in the world, from the past or present, who would it be and why?

Gabriel García Márquez. I imagine he had many more interesting stories to tell.

11. What was your favorite subject in school and why?

Social sciences, for how revealing they are. That is why I chose Sociology when I went to university, although its role in Romania is rather modest even nowadays.

12. Tell us three things most people don’t know about you.

Probably the fact that I read a lot about the perfume history and perfume makers.

13. Tell us three moments or events that have been turning points in your life.

Leaving my home town to go to university, moving to Bucharest four years later, meeting the people who are now my best friends.

14. What would you do if you won the lottery?

You can’t win if you don’t play.

15. What is your biggest pet peeve?

Ignorance.

16. What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?

That my intuition should be my new best friend.

17. What do you wish you could have told yourself at age 13?

I am not sure I was mature enough at 13 for that. But at 16 or 18 I would have told myself to take every opportunity.

18. What cities/countries have you lived in?

Botoșani, Iași, Bucharest – all in Romania.

19. If you could live in another country of the 30+ countries where PETOŠEVIĆ operates, which would you pick and why?

Until PETOŠEVIĆ opens an office in Switzerland – it is Slovenia. I love everything about it.

20. If someone came to your city for 24 hours, where would you take them?

Around Bucharest. There are so many beautiful places to see just steps away from the city!
